Volunteer Opportunity Description

Our nonprofit serves older adults (55+) in the city of Alexandria with the following offerings:

  • Running errands for someone (pick up prescriptions/dry cleaning, etc.)

  • Grocery shopping for someone

  • Home Maintenance: small repairs, change light bulbs, flip mattresses, move small items, assess repairs and make recommendations

  • In-Home Convenience: occasional help in the home - water plants, mail pickup

  • Office Support: data entry; assisting with events and mailings; organizing meetings; filing, creating information packets, etc.) 

  • Organization/Decluttering at someone's home: help with organizing office files and/or kitchen cabinets, assist with downsizing and clutter reduction

  • Personal Connections: check-in calls, friendly visits, reading aloud, help with hobbies, playing games

  • Pet Feeding

  • Outdoor Services: gardening help and/or advice, snow and leaf removal, pruning bushes, pulling weeds/cleanup

  • Technology Support: computers/laptops, printers, cell phones, thermostats, small appliances

  • Driver (to/from appointments, meetings, grocery store, pharmacy, cleaners, shopping, AHA events) (21+ only)

  • Walking Companion

  • Programs/Events/Social/Cultural: assisting at farmers' markets and events



Other Important Information
  • All volunteers will need to be background checked (at no cost to them) and will need to attend an orientation.

  • Volunteers must be at least 18 years old to participate.

  • The most frequent volunteer requests are for transportation. All volunteers who would like to drive must be at least 21 years old.
